Jones Hole

I hope that title got your attention. Although art/design is the interest of mine that I give the most time now that I'm in college, in high school I spent a large portion of my time playing sports and enjoying the outdoors with my family. And since I'm pretty sure you have an idea what soccer, basketball, and hiking are, I decided to choose the less lame route and tell you about one of my favorite places in northeastern Utah.

Dinosaur National Monument

Vernal isn't exactly most people's number one tourist destination-- UNLESS you have a thing for Dinosaurs. But if I'm being honest, anyone who grows up in Vernal has lost all excitement for dinosaurs by the age of 8, because by that time they've probably been to the museum once for every year of their life. Dinosaur National Monument is a pretty alright place to bring visitors, but for me, the dino bones are the least exciting part of one of the largest geographical parks in the nation.

"9 Butt Falls"

A tributary to the Green River which runs through Dinosaur, Jones Creek runs through a beautiful canyon known as Jones Hole (probably because of the fishing). For as long as I can remember, my family and our best friends have hiked through Jones Hole every summer to reach Ely Creek Falls. It quickly became known to us as "9 Butt Falls" because the waterfall is small enough that when a few people sit at the top, it can be plugged up. The water is freezing, and we play a game where we plug the falls long enough for someone to get underneath, and then everyone at the top stands up and all of the water comes crashing onto the person at the bottom. Whoever stays under the freezing water for the longest, wins!
